WISP Network Engineer
Location: Lake Wales, FL (on-site / field-based, Polk County service area)
Business unit: MORnet Communications · Employment type: Full-time
About the role
MORnet Communications is hiring a WISP Network Engineer to operate, monitor, and troubleshoot our fixed-wireless and routed network end to end — towers, backhaul, and customer connections. You’ll work hands-on with our routing core (OSPF/BGP) and a multi-vendor RF fleet (Ubiquiti, Cambium, and Baicells). This is a hands-on role for someone equally comfortable in a routing config and at the base of a tower.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor network health across towers, backhaul links, and customer endpoints; respond to and resolve outages and performance issues.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot OSPF and BGP routing across the MORnet core and edge.
- Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot fixed-wireless RF equipment — Ubiquiti (airMAX/airFiber/UISP), Cambium (ePMP/PMP/PTP), and Baicells LTE — including point-to-point backhaul and point-to-multipoint sectors.
- Perform RF work: alignment, frequency/channel planning, interference troubleshooting, and link optimization.
- Provision new customer connections and turn up new sites and sectors.
- Maintain accurate network documentation — IP addressing, topology, device inventory, and change records.
- Provide tier-2 / tier-3 escalation for field technicians and participate in an on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with OSPF and BGP in a production ISP / WISP environment.
- Practical experience configuring and troubleshooting at least two of Ubiquiti, Cambium, and Baicells fixed-wireless platforms (all three strongly preferred).
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting / IP address management, and NAT.
- Working knowledge of RF fundamentals — propagation, frequency planning, and wireless link optimization.
- Strong troubleshooting ability across both routing and RF.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to tower and customer sites in the service area.
- Able to work outdoors and occasionally at height / on towers, with appropriate safety training and equipment.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience with MikroTik RouterOS and/or Cisco IOS.
- Certifications: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA / CCNP, or Ubiquiti / Cambium / Baicells vendor certifications.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and syslog-based alerting.
- Prior WISP or rural-broadband experience; tower-climbing / RF safety certification.
